Acknowledging his praises of Heber and presenting and discussing at length his own work on "Sir Tristrem"; asking him to return the material when he finishes, as his eyesight is unreliable and he finds it "difficult to procure a good amanuensis"; mentioning that the sheets were transcribed by Leyden, whom Heber also employs; acknowledging his approval of "the trifles" that he gave Lewis; postponing his response to "the curious & interesting question" regarding "the introduction of French words & phrases into Scotland" until he has access to his research materials; asking him to mention his publication when he speaks on "the Knight of Lionel"; inquiring as to the difference in representation of Sir Gawaine between the British/Chaucerian and French traditions and discussing medieval romances in general; seeking his and Heber's opinions of endeavoring to translate selections from "the Runic Rhymes" and indicating that his "Border Ballads will see the light in the beginning of the year."
